The vehicle that is alleged to have killed a young woman in a hit-and-run on April 18 has been located.

A press release from the RCMP didn’t indicate where or when the vehicle, which had been previously described as a grey 2011-2013 model Hyundai Elantra, was found, or if any suspects had been located and/or arrested.

“The vehicle has undergone examination by the [RCMP’s] Forensic Identification Section,” the release said.

“Our officers are continuing to work tirelessly to advance the investigation.”

The young woman killed in the incident, which occurred along the Trans-Canada Highway at about 9:50 p.m. near Green Road just outside of Duncan, has been identified as 17-year-old Cowichan Tribes member, Leeann Joe.

Emergency crews attended the scene of the incident where they found Joe dead at the scene.

“The North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP would like to thank the public with their assistance with the investigation so far,” said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Brett Urano.

“If you know anything about this hit and run and have not yet spoken with us, please come forward and speak with investigators or supply any dash camera footage you may have. If you have any information please contact the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP at 250-748-5522.”
