NOTICE OF LOCAL AREA SERVICE

– GREENDALE ROAD AREA

Approval Process for authorizing the establishment of a Local

Area Service Bylaw for the extension of a sanitary sewer

service to the Greendale Road area.

NOTICE IS HERE BY GIVEN

that the Town of Lake Cowichan proposes to extend sanitary

sewer services to the Greendale Road area as is proposed in Bylaw 1095-2023. The

principal cost is estimated $2,200,000. The debt to be incurred for this amount plus

the interest will be paid off in 25 years.

APPROVAL PROCESS AND ELIGIBILITY

The Town of Lake Cowichan may proceed with the establishment of the local area

service for sewer for Greendale unless the owners within the affected properties

in the Town of Lake Cowichan representing at least half of the assessed values in

the benefitting area indicate by letter or petition that they are not in favour of the

establishment of such a service within 30 days of the second notice.

The local area service area that is benefitting from the service would be wholly

responsible for paying the costs of the new service. The owners’ portion of the cost

of a local area service tax is 100% of the actual cost to be levied and recovered over

25 years.

Owners whose parcels benefitfromor abutthe proposed works and who are subject

to being specially charged, may commute, by a one-time payment, the special

charges imposed on them. The commuted value is the unamortized proportionate

share of the owners’ portion of the cost, as determined by the Officer assigned

responsibility for financial administration.

NOTE: Only one property owner may sign and submit a letter per property,

regardless of how many owners there may be.

The letters against may be submitted to the Municipal Office at 39 South Shore

Road, Lake Cowichan, BC, from 8:30 am. to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday (except

holidays), between the date of the second publication of this notice and no later

than November 25th, 2023.
