Cowichan music teachers take centre stage for concert

Titled: ‘I Played This Better At Home (really, I did!)’

Music teachers usually operate behind the scenes as they focus their efforts on letting their students shine.

But on Saturday, April 27 the teachers of the Cowichan Valley Music Teachers Association will be taking centre stage for a concert at Sylvan United Church titled tongue in cheek I Played This Better At Home (really, I did!).

Performers include pianists Ron Kilian, Emily Armour, Catharina de Beer, Ruth Williams, Dave Lieffertz and Ann Mendenhall; singers Connie Masson, Andrea Rodall, and Madeleine Lieffertz; violinists Garth Williams and Emily Vazquez; cellist Trisha Daniell; Baroque flautist Danel Cove; and harpist Marilyn Rummel.

The performers will feature a variety of styles from classical to popular jazz and there will be several collaborations, including duets and trios as the teachers pool their talents.

Entry is by donation, and all donations will go to support the organization’s awards, bursaries and scholarships fund. The show starts at 7:30 p.m.

“We are excited to share our music at this light-hearted, fun concert, letting our students, and the general public, know that we, too, ‘Played this Better At Home!’,” said group member Ann Mendenhall in a press release.
