I am a little fed up with the BC Government’s misleading ads on the HST vote. As an example, last week’s Gazette displpayed an ad reading “Before you vote, understand the referendum question.”

Last weekend brought out the best in the Cowichan Lake area community. Between Canada Day and Bay Days festivities, local volunteers proved once more how great this community can be, thanks to the efforts of the area’s most devoted residents.

… and pop the cork on a bottle of homegrown Cowichan Valley vino. A mere twenty five years ago, you’d have come up dry, with nary a winery in sight, but times they are a-changing and we now have a cornucopia of wineries to delight our taste buds and complement those intoxicating aromas wafting up from the barbeque.

The Town of Lake Cowichan’s elected officials have decided, in a split-vote, to allow camping at Centennial Park for special events. Not after angering both sides of the argument with their flip-flopping, though.

Mr. Joe Dorey has responded to a letter suggesting we should remove the recent ban on camping behind Centennial Hall with an unworthy diatribe about the effect of the noise on him personally and a trio of specious incidents to support his argument. I must respectfuly submit that his position is unworthy of him and cannot be justified by the facts.

Nanaimo-Cowichan MP Jean Crowder's first speech during this session of Parliament was on the budget implementation bill and how it did not address poverty reduction.

There are ongoing concerns about aging septic systems that leak into lakes.

Thanks again to the hard work of dedicated local volunteers, this past week saw another successful Lake Days festival take place in town.

It was so heart-warming to experience the love and support that the community of Lake Cowichan gave to all the participants in the contest for the title "Lady of the Lake" at the Ball on Friday night.

Our lakes are in trouble. The recent cutbacks by Senior Governments with regard to environmental protection have left our lakes and rivers vulnerable.
